China Market

It's a subsidiary of The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in PRC. When you visit the homepage, you should be able to see the similarity with portals like Yahoo and Netcenter . Just same foreground (blue) and background (white) colours. It has eight major categories of informationn :

  1. Business News
  2. Bidding
  3. Regional Information
  4. Companies
  5. Exhibitions & Fairs
  6. Invest in China
  7. Laws and Regulations
  8. Made in China
Just all sorts of tools to attract you in trading and investing in China are included in the web site.

  • Clear target audience

  • The target is obviously foreign investors and buyers. It can fulfill most of the information needs with the major categories plus it has both Chinese and English versions.

  • Content

  • As a government agency, it doesn't have the resource issues as a business oriented site. The PRC government also has the most complete picture of the economy from its own database.

  • Organization/Navigation

  • If you like the style of Yahoo, then you will feel at home with China Market . On the homepage, it has some direct access paths under each major categories. When you access each page, you can see the path you have followed from the homepage. At the top of each page, you can also access to common categories.

  • Page layout

  • Generally, each page is quite short because it doesn't have to provide long text. The layout is very clean and consistent.

  • Relative Response Time

  • Even though it just has one banner ad (the same one !) on each page, accessing very page during the day time takes a few minutes ! Not sure whether it's too popular. Anyway, it should improve this to avoid visitors flipping to the other site. Well, it may not need to fix this problem because it's a government site.

  • Quality of pages

  • I haven't encountered a bad link although it must have a few given so many links on the web site. On every page, there is a mail link to the webmaster.
