China Law

This is an academic web site with all the PRC laws in both English and Chinese. In addition, it has laws of Taiwan, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Macau. The site has received high ratings from Chinese and Asian studies web sites. The law site doesn't have much graphics (it doesn't have to be as an academic web site). The structure has a very simple structure. A homepage with main menu at the bottom using red icons. Selecting any of them will bring you into another one with the menu in the left frame. The right frame is the main text.

Clear target audience

The site is superb for researchers. It has laws plus explanation on various legal issues due to country differences. Business people would also find it very useful with the introduction to setting up different types of offices in PRC and company law of Taiwan.

It's perhaps the most complete Chinese law site on the web with both Chinese and English.

Organization/Navigation

Law text is supposed to be long and dull. The authors do not have to concern about how to attract visitors by other appeal. The simple design of left and right frame layout is suffice for reading law text. Search with boolean expression support is a handy tool to visitors.

Page layout

Low requirement on visitor attraction.

Relative Response Time

It's hosting in University of Maryland makes it very fast to respond. No graphic page makes it much faster.

Quality of pages

Very hard to find out obvious spelling mistakes in a law site as it takes so much patience to read one page of law. However, it depends on some external sites to provide content like PRC laws in Chinese. Some of the links are found to be invalid.
